Currently my house is driving me a little nuts. I love this house. I loved it the moment I saw it. Certainly the love affair has worn off with a couple things, namely the kitchen (too small and needs major updating) and the bathroom (too small, needs major updating, and needs a twin down the hall). But I think otherwise it fits us well...when we don't have too much stuff, that is. And right now, we do. I'm doing my best to work through that, of course. There is still a pile of donations in the spare room and three different baby feeding chairs in the basement family room. Finding time to record the donations and finding places for the baby stuff (since a lot of places don't take them) is proving challenging, but we need to have company down there in three weeks so I need to get moving on it. Regardless, I continue to organize and sort everywhere else in the house. I can't say I'm getting rid of a lot, but I'm at least finding better spots. I had Craig move the last of the lacrosse sticks out of the dining room (since no one is playing that sport right now), which left space for the boys' backpacks, which freed up room next to the front door. I did about seven months of filing tonight, and then cleared the filing holding spot off my desk and hung up a wall file holder I snagged from work last year, which made a world of difference on my cluttered desk. Little things.
I inadvertently spent hours on Saturday morning rearranging clothes. Jacob was insisting he didn't have room in his room for his basketball stuff, which I poo-pooed because he has a giant closet and there was a lot of stuff in there he didn't use. Craig went in and cleared some things out and left a pile for me to sort through. I took the opportunity to clear out more shirts I knew he wouldn't wear, and then moved them into the appropriate bins in the crawl space. In the process, I pulled out some next-size-up stuff for Carter. However, I then realized that there was a batch of clothes MIA somewhere, because there were a couple shirts I knew Jacob wore around Carter's age that I couldn't find. I realized after all of this back and forth that there was a half-full bin already packed away in Jacob's closet! That's where the next size up was, so that involved even more sorting! Then I undertook the task of switching around some hangers in each closet (to move some of Jacob's extras to replace the cruddy, too-small store hangers in Carter's closet), and finally moved around some of Carter's clothes to prepare for cooler weather this week. It was noon before I could even think about showering, but then ended up making lunch and working out first! It felt good to get it all done, but it's crazy!
I felt pretty good about getting so much done (I even finished a book!), to the point that tonight I found myself with some time and ended up putting out the Halloween décor even thought it's not even October. Easier to just get it done, I guess, because another busy week is ahead. The thing is, next weekend is my cousin's wedding, so that will be a busy couple days. The weekend after is actually a long weekend (four days for the boys, three for each of us), and that's when I'm planning on tackling the towering donation pile. Hopefully I can dispatch some of the baby stuff before that. But I have to get it done then because the following weekend someone will be staying in that room! Yay, a concert weekend with Mary! But before then the house needs some serious cleaning (like vacuuming up a window sill full of flies in the basement, still from our infestation). A little at a time, I guess.
But aside from my crazy organizing, we didn't do much. We did make a trip to a couple furniture stores to look at new living room furniture (again), and while I think we've mostly made up our minds, the final decision is still tough. We added dinner out and a Wegmans trip to that (and yet another Wegmans trip after church this morning), and aside from a lot of TV watching and some basketball playing for the boys, it was a pretty quiet weekend. Not bad, mind you, but maybe a little wasteful? Admittedly, the weather wasn't great this weekend--warm but a bit rainy yesterday, and cool but sunny enough today. We probably could have figured out something fun outdoors, though. My concern is that next weekend is busy, the following weekend could be busy (a trip to Toronto is still a slim chance), and the weekend after that I'll be mostly hanging out with Mary, so that won't leave a lot of time for pumpkin patching since Craig will be starting training camp for work the weekend after that. We only have a couple chances around that, so if the weather stinks, we're screwed. So, maybe we should have done it today? Ugh.
What else is up? This is Jacob's last week of basketball with his still-winless team, which means it's the last super busy week for a while. Thank goodness. We actually don't have confirmation/bible study this week or next, so that will help. All things considered, I felt a bit more human this past week with our early mornings, but this week features an allergy shot and annual physical, not to mention a very busy work day for me on Friday, leading into packing up and heading to the wedding out of town this weekend, so I will need every second I can spare!
Jacob survived two big simultaneous projects this week--a two-page paper and an ABC book for Latin--so that was a relief. Although, he actually missed school on Friday because he'd had pretty bad stomach cramps for a few days and we figured he might not be up to a full day that included gym. On the bright side, it will give him practice following up with his teachers about homework!
Carter found out on Tuesday that he likes shrimp (yay for everyone liking an Instant Pot shrimp boil!), and lost a tooth on Thursday that had been giving him trouble for days. It was super loose but still holding on to too much gum, but after making it through shrimp boil leftovers (including corn on the cob) on Thursday, he lost it after some pretzels on the way to basketball!

| Of course, as usual, the new tooth is half in behind it. |
